Join Neighbors to Weigh in on Immigration Actions
Escondido Indivisible members joined with Escondido Neighbors for Solutions to urge our elected officials to help us address the worst excesses of federal immigration enforcement agents active in our city. A letter was sent to each member of the delegation (the copy here went to Rep. Issa) along with the letter sent by four members of the City Council. (For some inexplicable reason Councilmember Judy Fitzgerald abstained from this common-sense letter written by her colleagues on the council)
Now, that a letter requesting immigration reform has been sent, we all need to urge the Council to take more action to address what is happening now! You can support these actions along with others you think would make a difference.
In addition to taking action on comprehensive immigration reform, we are asking our Congressional reps to 1. Prohibit masking of agents, 2. Require badges and other identification of agents, 3. Fund experienced community organizations for ‘Know Your Rights’ campaigns for local communities and businesses, 4. Establish a ‘Safe Passage Act’ prohibiting immigration detentions within a mile of any school, and 5. Commitment to fully comply with existing state laws including AB 953 the Racial and Identity Profiling Act of 2015 and SB 54 the California Values Act.
If you care about what is happening, please come and make a statement to the City Council on public comment. Let the Council know you do not support the masking, aggression, and lack of ID going on in our city by federal immigration agents. If you are concerned about your safety, you can contact one of our members and we can read your story and concerns into the record for you.
