Cancel ICE Firing Range Contract in Escondido

Cancel ICE Firing Range Contract in Escondido

On January 14, the Escondido Police Department entered into a contract that allows DHS/ICE to use our Escondido firing range. Fortunately, Mayor White has scheduled this for the City Council discussion on February 25th, but we are calling for cancellation now.

Letter from Community Groups

We oppose this action. We respectfully but firmly request that the Escondido Police Department cancel the contract allowing ICE access to Escondido’s firing range immediately.

ACTIONS to take

 1. Please email the Police Chief at Ken.Plunkett@escondido.gov

·       Respectfully, ask the Chief to cancel this contract immediately.

·       Let him know that you understand he is new to Escondido, but this is unacceptable to our city.

·       Tell him your personal concerns about ICE locally and how they are behaving nationwide.

·       Reminder him that more ICE agents in Escondido makes us less safe. We understand this will be heard on Feb. 25th by Council but we do not support ICE training between now and then.

  1. Please Email Mayor and City Council. Please file comment here before Jan. 28

·       Thank Mayor White for scheduling this for Feb. 25’s City Council agenda but ask him to ensure that ICE does not train there before Feb. 25.

·       Let them know your thoughts about drawing armed ICE agents into our community in this way.

·       Urge the Mayor and Council to support cancellation of this contract immediately. We do not want ICE using the firing range between now and Feb 25th when this will be heard.
